AFTER is not an emergency service

If you are in immediate danger, or you are thinking about ending your life, please contact emergency services or one of the helplines listed in the app under Help lines. The people on AFTER are here to listen. They are not trained in crisis care, and this is not a substitute for it.

You will never be punished here for saying how bad it is. Our systems are built to make sure of that.

Calls are checked automatically

Every voice and video call on AFTER is transcribed in real time by software, on both sides, for as long as the call lasts.

Here is exactly what that means:

  • The audio is not recorded or stored. It passes through and is gone.
  • The software turns speech into text as the call runs, **only to look for shared contact

details**, a phone number, a UPI ID, an email address.

  • The text is deleted after about thirty seconds. A rolling window is checked and then

discarded. Nothing accumulates.

  • No person listens to your call, and no person reads the text, unless the software

finds a contact detail being shared.

  • If it does, the call is not interrupted. The account that shared it is restricted, a

short excerpt is kept, and a member of our team reviews it. You are told what happened.

We do this for one reason: taking a conversation off AFTER removes every protection both people have. See "Keep it on AFTER" in the Terms.

By starting a call you accept this. If you would rather not be transcribed, use chat, messages are screened in the same way, without any audio.

Sharing contact details

Not allowed, in either direction, by either person. Numbers, emails, social handles, UPI IDs, links. Including spelled out, in another language, or in pieces.

What happens:

A Listener shares themProfile restricted immediately, earnings stopped, payouts held, reviewed by a person. Repeat or deliberate: permanent ban.
A user shares themWarning, then restriction. Repeat or deliberate: permanent ban, and no new account.

Reporting and blocking

You can report anyone, from any conversation, from their profile, or from a room. Reports are read by a person, not a machine. You can block someone, which ends the conversation and stops them reaching you again. Neither is ever told to the other person as "X reported you".

There is a daily limit on blocks, only to stop the tools themselves being used to harass.

What gets an account closed

Sexual content or solicitation. Abuse, harassment or threats. Recording someone without their knowledge. Pretending to be someone else. Asking for money outside AFTER. Sharing contact details after being told.

Listeners

A Listener is a person who chose to be here and can end any conversation, at any time, for any reason, without explaining. Safety comes before earnings, every time. A Listener who ends a call because they felt unsafe is never penalised for it.

Telling us

safety@theafterhoursapp.com, for anything on this page: harassment, a threat, someone pretending to be somebody else, a request for money outside AFTER, or a Listener who behaved badly. It reaches us whether or not you can sign in.

If you are signed in, You → Support is faster, because it carries the conversation with it and we are not asking you which one you mean. Either way a person reads it.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. We are not an emergency service and we are not a clinic.
